Tia Pakhi

Kantha Embroidery and beautiful colours, that is what got interested  me in Tia Pakhi.I love these little stitches called Kantha. Kantha stitiches where there from time immemorial, nowadays designers and craftpersons reinvent new designs with age old craft forms.

It was to my surprise that they had one of their exhibtions in New Delhi,in one of the beautiful villages in one of the beautiful surroundings of Rose,Hauzkhas. The exhibition seemed quite natural.By the time I reached it was the last day of the exhibition and it was late evening .So photographing the beauties in daylight seemed quite difficult for me so that I had to shoot in the dark.Tia Pakhi has also some brilliantly Indianised shoot for their products.

Tia pakhi cushions made my spring brighter and wonderful.see them in the last post.

As the sun sets and its time for my images which i took in the low light..The lamps kept just blew my mind.lamps glowing and the reflections made the ambience richer and brighter.I was fortunate to have been there at that time.

Jivi Sethi an inspiration

About Inspiring people and Inspiring Interiors..

Whether you are contemplating a big change, working toward achieving a goal, or just trying to get through the day, these people  will give you a little dose of inspiration and motivation.

This series was always there in my mind, and it just happened today and the great Jivi Sethi happens to be the first in this series. He is a furniture designer, stylist and selft taught interior designer. Years back I still remember an interior magazine featuring Sethi's homes in Goa and Delhi. His style had always left an indelible ink in my mind. His style of mixing the old with the contemporary, the eclecticism, the kitchy elements, his style of furnitures, style according to the changing seasons, breaking all rules of design, yet maintaining its limits all attracted me to his style.

"Jivi is known for his impeccable taste and great style and is regarded as one of the best dressed men in India."  says Fiona Caulfield.

Viki Sardesai says it all.

"Homes are  canvasses that are constantly changing like the seasons. Never to be stationary... forever ephemeral. And they do, painted over time and again, as does the beholding eye, that constantly finds something to titillate and surprise it. Vinyl mixed with the finest brocades and Persian carpets... Bronzes placed against festive folk masks, set alongside a contemporary abstract painting, lit by a strangely alien lamp! Held together by colour or form or the total contrast of these elements, they all seem like happy bedfellows in a constant game of musical chairs...

While it seems that there is an ease with which he waves his creative wand, to put it all in place, it is also apparent that a lot has gone into selecting these elements to mix into his visually amazing potpouri. Everything has been painfully thought out, edited, worked on, transformed and then placed to create magic. It all seems effortless in its complexity and detail. And there are no holds barred in arriving at what he wants.

He has an untrained eye for design that transcends all expectations and conventions. Nothing seems good or bad enough to use. Everything can find a place in his innate sensibility. His total disregard for obvious solutions is the key to his success and approach to design. And it is not with the intention of breaking any norms. It is a natural way of seeing things differently, that allows him to effortlessly stir things together and create his own exhilarating madness.

It is his uncanny way of picking ingredients that are both visually eye catching and mundane, held together with magical and invisible threads, that make his spaces a treat to the eye, and hedonistic in feeling. And yet he somehow knows where to draw the line.

And with a blink of the eye the spaces assume a different skin and proportion that sublimates its existence. His total disregard for obvious solutions is the key to his success and approach to design. And it is not with the intention of breaking any norms. It is a natural way of seeing things differently, that allows him to effortlessly stir things together and create his own exhilarating madness.
